Theresa (Terri) Marrie passed away on December 6, 2022 at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie BC; 25 days shy of her 85th birthday (December 31st).
A New Year’s Eve baby, Terri or Tess as her family called her, was born in Mount Carmel, Newfoundland & Labrador to Mr. & Mrs. Frank Marrie. Theresa was very proud of her heritage and was often heard singing the praises of the nearby Salmonier River, a fishing destination for Atlantic Salmon.
Devoted to Christ first, she left behind three daughters: Phyllis Hart of Labrador City, NL, Patsy Decker of Sparwood, BC, and Beverly Bruce of Vancouver BC, each of whom have wonderful partners in life. She has four grandchildren: Chrysta Benning and Stephen Hart of Calgary, AB, Keri Copper-Hart of Lac-au-Saumon, PQ, and Tyler Decker of Sparwood, BC and five great grandchildren. Theresa came from a large family with several brothers and sisters, many of whom still live across Canada.
Although she spent the majority of her life in British Columbia, she also lived in Quebec for a number of years, where she attended a linguistics college and learned to speak and write the French language. We were very proud of her for this accomplishment.
In her younger years, she was deeply involved in provincial politics and was a ranking member of the campaign teams for the Honorable Frank Moore and later the Honorable John Crosby. (Anything to not have Joey Smallwood win). í ½í¸Š She was also the first woman to work at the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation, a job she kept for more than 10 years.
Terri lived an extremely healthy and active lifestyle and was well known for her running, hiking and walking the local trails with her little Australian Terrier dog, Bear.
Though she never learned to swim, she was not too pretentious to put on the kid’s flotation device where she could be seen floating in the water at the children’s’ end of the pool. We had many laughs about that!
She was extremely social, kind and a lifelong volunteer. Terri loved all animals (even crows – inside joke and funny story) and had an affinity for anything outdoors.
At this time, we would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at Rocky Mountain Village, with particular thanks to the nursing staff. Our mom loved the nurses, and they loved her. Thank you and bless you all; there are too many to name.
From us to you, please join us on Saturday, to pay homage to this wonderful woman, whom we were blessed to call Our Mother.
In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the Rocky Mountain Village Auxiliary or to your local charity of choice.
