Ronald Lawrence ZIMMER

Ron Zimmer, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022, at the age of sixty, with his wife Judy by his side. He was born September 18, 1961, in Lethbridge, Alberta to Herman and Florence Zimmer. 

Ron was predeceased by his dad Herman. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Zimmer; children Nicki (Aaron) Zimmer, and Jason Zimmer; his mother Florence Zimmer; siblings Wally (Betty Lou) Zimmer, and Pam (Bob) Prima; nephews Randy Zimmer (children Katryna, Brayden, Dylan, and Dannika), and James (Christine) Zimmer (children Elizabeth and Carly), and his brother-in-law Jordan (Lorraine) Coppieters.

Ron married Judy, the love of his life, in May 1981 in Lethbridge. In the Spring of that year, the couple moved to Elkford where Ron began his 38-year career as a coal miner. This is also where his love for living the mountain lifestyle began, and where they completed their family with the arrival of a daughter and a son he would adore.

Ron was an outdoorsman at heart. His passion was skiing with his family along with mountain biking, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping walking his dogs and photography. He was a man who enjoyed taking a hands-on approach to life. He had a wicked sense of humour, and was a kindhearted, incredible man that made fond memories with anyone he met. Ron always had a joke or funny story to share, and no one was a stranger to him. 

He loved his family and dogs unconditionally. Ron was blessed to have had such a great family and friends circle to share in his journey. 

Ron’s family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and Elk Valley Hospital staff that was with him during his fight with glioblastoma/brain cancer. They saw the strength and determination he had in him to fight this. He said all along he was going to beat it. Many are so proud of him.
