Maurice CORNOCK Obituary

Maurice Jacklin Cornock was born in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia on December 30th, 1927. In Fernie, BC on February 7th, 2019 at the age of 91 Maurice headed out for the “Final Roundup” due to natural causes. He shared one last glorious smile while holding hands with his daughter Jacky.

He grew up with his five siblings on a homestead in Tupper, BC. Maurice has always had a passion for gold panning and worked in a small gold placer mining claim near Wells, BC. His love for gold continued throughout his life and those who knew him would be shown a glimpse of his gold and hear interesting prospect stories. He also had a lifelong passion for trains that began with his job as a Brakeman for Canadian Northern Railway before settling in Calgary, Alberta. While raising his family he was employed by Circle C Concrete and the Calgary Herald until his Retirement.

Maurice settled into the East Kootenays in 1986 where, true to his nature he provided a service to the communities he lived in by cleaning up anywhere there was rubbish lying around. Maurice was a hunter of rare and unique relics, always seeking treasure and adventure along the way. He was an enthusiastic cyclist during his years in Cranbrook, BC. He wore out both his hips as well as one artificial hip cycling into the wee hours of the morning doing his self -appointed volunteer job taking care of the environment long before it was a “thing”. Advancing from bicycle to scooter allowed him the freedom to continue his adventures all around Fernie BC. Maurice loved a good scooter trip on the bike trails along the Elk River and downtown for a small hot coffee with an excessive amount of sugar added in. Perhaps you were one of the many generous people of Fernie who helped Maurice when his scooter battery would be low and offer him refuge while he charged it enough to get home, the family genuinely thanks you for this.

Maurice has many nieces and nephews who hold their own cherished memories of their time together. We all have great memories and stories of Maurice, and the family would like to encourage you to share your memories for everyone to enjoy. He enjoyed all friends and family that came for a visit and would greet them all with the same genuinely joyful smile we’ll all remember fondly.

At Maurice's request there will be no service. We would love if you remember Maurice by taking time in each day to say hello, offer a smile as he always did throughout his life.

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little-but not too long

And not with your head bowed low

Remember the love that we once shared

Miss me-but let me go

For this is a journey that we all must take

And each must go alone.

It's all part of the Master's plan

A step on the road to home

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds

Miss me but let me go
