It is with heartfelt sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Gallinger, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather who died suddenly with his family by his side.
Gerry was well known for his sense of humor, his fun facts, and not afraid to share his thoughts on politics - usually federal politics. He loved fishing and hunting with his family and camping in the new travel trailer. He especially enjoyed sitting around the fire and telling stories, sometimes with a drink or two.
Gerry went to school at SIAT to become a forester, which he did for several years. He then started at Greenhills in 1981 where he worked in the safety department and then later in the warehouse. There were rumors about some pranks that were played with his fellow workers at the time. He participated in many mine rescue competitions and enjoyed the comradery with his teammates, especially when they won, which was often.
Gerry was a good carpenter, having built his house on the acreage near Sparwood, and built unique beds, tables, storage units, decks, and feature walls to name a few.
He liked to make homemade wine using different blends of fruit, which mostly turned out well. He liked to BBQ and experiment with his smoker making jerky, smoked salmon, and other meats. He enjoyed food, especially Cindy's homemade breads, soups, desserts, and canning.
Gerry will be missed by his devoted and loving wife of twenty-six years, Cindy; sons Jeff (Krystal) and Ryan; stepdaughter Renee; granddaughters Erica, Paige, and Noelle; his many brothers, sisters, in-laws and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Sylvia; father and mother-in-law Gudjon and Rita Olafson; brother Ronnie; sister Wendy, and bonus son Beau.
As per his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer with family and friends.
