It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Derek Kennedy. He was surrounded by loved ones on April 2, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Derek was born on February 2, 1981, in Fernie, BC, to parents Doug and Janet Kennedy. He did all of his schooling in Fernie. After leaving Fernie for the city life, in Calgary, AB, Derek worked at various jobs and has spent the past 12+ years working as an auto glass technician with Speedy Auto Glass. He placed second in a national competition and took great pride in his work.
Derek loved swimming, gaming, and dressing up for Comic-Con events, technology was definitely “his thing”! He loved to celebrate the holidays in a big way. Christmas and Halloween were his favorites and always so much fun. He loved to feed and befriend birds and squirrels, both at home and while camping at Lake Koocanusa. He got so much joy from watching them. He loved his niece, Astrea, with all his heart and always wanted to be the best uncle EVER!
Derek is survived by his parents Doug and Janet, sister Lindsay (Marty), niece Astrea, best friend and caretaker Stacey Greenway, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved cats Crystal and Max. He was predeceased by his uncle Don and Uncle Steve. He will be forever missed by many.
At his request, there will be no funeral. A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
