In December of 1994, with support and encouragement from the people of the Elk Valley, John and Lynda Gawryluk established Cherished Memories Funeral Services. Their first years were spent operating in a rented location in Sparwood until construction of their permanent funeral home began in the fall of 1997. Cherished Memories “Serenity Chapel” opened its doors in the summer of 1998.
By the summer of 2004, Cherished Memories Crematorium was built. Having a local crematorium enables Cherished Memories to provide families with a greater sense of flexibility and peace of mind, ensuring that their loved one never leaves our care.
For more than 30 years, John and Lynda guided families with compassion, professionalism, and dedication, building a trusted reputation that became the foundation of our work today.
In August of 2025, their son, Jordan “JJ” Gawryluk, proudly assumed ownership of Cherished Memories Funeral Services. As the second generation of the family to carry on this calling, JJ brings more than 15 years of leadership experience and a deep commitment to serving families with the same care and compassion that his parents instilled. His vision blends tradition with innovation, ensuring that the funeral home continues to grow and meet the evolving needs of the Elk Valley and South Country.
Families can feel confident knowing that the legacy of service begun by John and Lynda continues today under JJ’s leadership, supported by a dedicated team and guided by the same values of dignity, respect, and compassion.
