William “Bill” Albert Wheeler passed away peacefully Saturday, January 31, 2026, in Fernie, BC with family at his side.
Bill was born on December 17,1934 in Frenchman’s Cove, Newfoundland to William and Janet Wheeler. He was one of 12 children.
In 1957, Bill moved to Baie Verte, Newfoundland to work as an operator at the mines. During this time, he worked towards becoming certified as a heavy-duty mechanic, went on to work for the town of Baie Verte, and eventually moved to Sparwood, BC in 1982 where he worked in mining for the remainder of his career.
On October 22,1958, he married the love of his life, Shirley, and together they had 6 sons. Bill was a faithful husband and father who was a great example of living love and kindness out loud, he was always willing to lend a hand and guided with his faith in God through strength and gentleness. He wholeheartedly loved his family and close friends, showing up for as many important events as possible!
Bill was a talented woodworker who was able to build, repair or renovate anything he set out to do! He always had a project on the go, whether it was making something fun for his grand kids or helping someone build or fix something.
Additionally, Bill was naturally talented at anything he tried, especially music. He could pick up just about any instrument and play any song by ear. He and Shirley spent many hours leading worship at church, jamming with friends and playing at senior homes.
Bill will be deeply missed by his boys, Dereck (Irene) Rideout, Tony (Golda) Wheeler, Paul (Peggy) Wheeler, Bill (Pauline) Wheeler, Niles (Stacey) Wheeler and Blair (Amanda) Wheeler; his grandchildren, Shane (Lisa), Kimberly, Natasha (Keir), Ashley (Devon), Candace (Terrence), Billie-Jo (Nathan), Blake (Lora), Mitchel (Trisha), Jessica (Braeden), Melissa (Khiel), Hunter, Brianna and Stephan; his fifteen great grandchildren, his sisters, Joan and Irene (Ron); sister-in-law, Bernice; brother-in-law, Jerry (Norma-Jean) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill is predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley Wheeler.
