William “Bill” Savilow passed away peacefully on Monday, January 10th at the Rocky Mountain Village Nursing Home in Fernie, BC. He was born on October 14th, 1937 at home, behind the coking ovens in Michel/Natal.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret; son, Garth (Robby); grandchildren, Madison and Michael; and close friends, Wray, Irene, and Shannon (Joaquim) Mills. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Mary; and a sister, Evelyn.
Bill worked many years in the Elk Valley coal mines in underground and open-pit mining. He excelled as an equipment operator, writing training books for the BC Ministry of Mines and heading training for one of the area mines.
He had many passions which included hockey, hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and photography. He enjoyed searching for the next great hockey star as a scout in Western Canada. His love for the outdoors had him roaming the hills and wading the waters of Southeastern BC with family and friends.
Bill’s family would like to thank the staff at the Rocky Mountain Village for all the compassionate care and support during his stay. They are also grateful to family and friends for all their support during this very difficult time.
