Victor GLEASON Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor Lawrence Gleason. Vic passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2023.

Vic is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Bax) of 60 years, his daughters Dawn (Kim), Terylene (Troy), his grandchildren Trevor, Jillian (Dave), great grandson Noah and his fury best friend Jig, Jig.  Also, brothers Frank, Allan and sisters, Clara, Hazel, and Dorothy.  He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Edith, brothers, Joe, Bud, and Clifford.

Vic was born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, on September 26, 1935. Once Vic ventured to BC he continued to love and support his family back in Saskatchewan.  His first job was in Newgate in the lumber industry.  After that he hired on with East Kootenay Power which then became BC Hydro.  He worked for EK Power/BC Hydro for 35 years.   Vic was a lineman, subforeman lineman. Vic was also President/Secretary of IBEW.

Vic was a volunteer fireman in Fernie for 8 years. He enjoyed his Friday night men’s dart league so much that he stayed playing for 42 years. Vic also attended Elks lodge meetings faithfully for 52 years.  He was the president for 3 terms and 1 term District Deputy for Alberta and BC.

Vic was a true sports fan, cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and he was hoping to be able to see the Maple Leafs win a Stanley Cup again but unfortunately that did not happen.  He loved baseball and watching spring training camps when Vic and Sharon were vacationing in Arizona in the winter months.  His favourite baseball team was the New York Mets.

The most important teams of all were the teams that Trevor and Jillian played on.  Vic was one their biggest cheerleaders.

Vic and Sharon travelled to many destinations, spending 25 years in Arizona in the winter. He made many friends wherever he went and was still in contact until recently.  Vic enjoyed travelling but his happy places were in the backyard with family or in the bush picking huckleberries.  Vic was a very social, happy man and will leave the largest void in our family.

Vic was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a family man.  Anyone who met Vic for even a moment witnessed a wonderful sense of humour and a quick wit.  There was always laughter when Vic was in the room.

We would like to thank Dr. Soetaert, Dr. Rodrigue, and staff for all the support and care given to Vic.  A special thank you to all the people of Fernie and surrounding area for their kindness and support.
