A lifetime resident of Fernie, Terrance John George was born May 9, 1961, to parents Roy and Anne (Gawryluk) George. With family by his side, he passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook on Sunday, August 18th at the age of sixty-three.
The George family household was always a buzz of activity, and it was at his mom’s side that he learned his way around the kitchen. Terry enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends; always ready to prepare tried and true family recipes including Coca-Cola ribs, cabbage rolls, and of course, his famous smoked fish. He was an avid armchair sportsman, cheering on his Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays. Shows about goldmining, cooking programs, game shows, WWE, Married With Children or Jerry Springer were among his top favorite tv programs.
In his younger years, Terry was a start up goaltender for hockey that went on to win provincials and zone competitions. Before his health declined, Terry was an active member of the Fernie Legion where he played for many years in the dart league, winning many awards. and with his great hip moves, even took up line dancing with Dorrie. His drink of choice was Colt 45; he always had a warm one ready for any visitors who might happen by (sleep over) including his uncle Pete and brother Lyle. It became quite a regular occurrence, so Terry had to start refrigerating beer for both of them!
Friendly and outgoing, Terry loved to make people laugh. His smile and sense of humour will be missed by those he leaves behind. Until we meet again ……
Terry is survived by his wife Dorrie and their son Roy; grandson TJ and his brother Asher; sisters Kathy Hoogenboom from Groundbirch, BC, and Melody Priest from the Crowsnest Pass, AB; his niece Amanda and nephews Jeff, Adam, Brad and Travis as well as a large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Donna and Lori, his brother Lyle, and his uncle Peter George with whom he shared a special bond.
