With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Verch (nee Lauscher), who left us on October 7, 2024. Born in Colonsay, Saskatchewan, into a lively family of 20 children, Susan's journey began with a remarkable story. So small at birth, her mother lovingly kept her warm in a box on the door of the oven, a testament to her resilience and spirit.

In search of adventure beyond her small-town roots, Susan moved west to the coast, where she met her husband, Allan Verch. Their union blossomed into a beautiful family with the birth of their two sons, Travis and Rory. The family later settled in Elkford, BC, where they established deep roots and built a home.

Known for her warm hospitality, Susan had a gift for bringing people together. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends, whether for holidays or simply because. As a local caterer, she created memorable meals for weddings, funerals, and community events, taking pride in her fresh, homemade food. Though she kept a little secret about her perogies from Costco, those who dined at her events couldn’t help but appreciate the love and care she infused into every dish.

A sports enthusiast at heart, Susan was a dedicated curler and continued to serve on the board long after she could participate. Her passion for sports extended to watching everything from curling to hockey and cricket, filling her home with excitement and cheer.

Susan’s love extended to her four beloved grandchildren—Kaden, Jaidyn, Temperance, and Brynnan—whom she cherished and supported in all their endeavors.

Her fierce love, welcoming spirit, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. As we gather to honor her memory, we carry with us the echoes of her encouragement and the warmth of her love. Susan Verch touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hospitality, and unwavering devotion to family. Her kitchen, filled with the aroma of her famous fresh buns, cookie tray pizzas, and generous portions of homemade Chinese food, lovingly prepared so that her family could enjoy leftovers for days will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations are graciously being directed to the The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Service will be held in honour of Susan Verch on October 19, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Colonsay, Saskatchewan.
