Shirley Laura Scheller passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2024, in Fernie, BC.
She was born on February 13th, 1937, in the small community of Rife Alberta.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, David and Olive Charlton, husband Stanley "Red" and son Thomas. She is survived by her sons Lorne (Gerry), Kenny (Robyn), and Sam; granddaughters, Chelsea, Bailey, Kiarra, and Aliyah; great granddaughters, Sterling and Willow. Surviving siblings are sister Irene and brother Willie (Wendy).
Shirley and Red were married in 1955 in Edmonton. They moved to their farm in the Eastbourne District of Alberta in 1965. From there they moved to Jaffray in 1976 to be near family.
Shirley put in long hours on their farm and once settled in Jaffray, went to work for home support until retiring. In her younger years she enjoyed participating in some sports. Shirley and Red loved gardening, but camping was their greatest passion. She looked forward to her weekly crib games at The Seniors Centre with friends.
Special thanks to Fernie Home Care and Elk Valley Hospital staff for their care. You are all the greatest. Thank you, Dr Lowen, for taking Shirley as a patient so she was able to move into Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie. Her stay there was short but thank you one and all for your warmth and caring towards Shirley and family. Much appreciated.
