Robert "Bob" NICKERSON Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert (Bob) Nickerson at the Sparwood Primary Healthcare Emergency Department on August 13th, 2024.  Robert was born on July 8th, 1955, in Trail, BC and grew up in Robson, BC.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Ronald (Ron) and Phyllis Nickerson; his sister Patricia (Pat) Butala; and his brothers-in-law Dennis Percival and Rick Bush.

Robert leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Darlene, his cherished children Ryan (Zoe) and Kaitlyn (Covy), and his siblings Charlie (Lodie) Nickerson, Pam Percival (Bob Baitley), Helen Bush, Sherry (Steve) Farnum, Kerri (Ken) Neufeld and Trudy (Dave) Corney, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In 1973, Robert came to Sparwood in search of employment at Kaiser Resources Ltd. He returned home to graduate in 1974.  He immediately returned to Sparwood, which he quickly made his forever home. That same year, he met Darlene, and they were married in May 1980. Earlier this year, they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in Mexico, a favorite winter destination they’ve been visiting for years.

In 1991, he went into partnership and purchased Sparwood Mountain Mechanical Services, only to later expand to Elkford and Cranbrook.  In 2020, Robert retired after 29 years of proud ownership.

Robert always liked to keep busy, whether it was in his shop or working around the yard.  He always had time for a good chat and was always first to lend a helping hand.  Robert loved to travel and camp with family and friends.  For many years he loved to bring joy to others with the Nickerson Christmas yard display.   After retirement, Robert took up golfing and couldn’t wait to get on the golf course with his brother-in-law Ken.  His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends.

A heartful thank you from Darlene, Ryan (Zoe), Kaitlyn (Covy), and the entire family to Dr. Petrucha, Dr. Rader, the many nurses, and the BC Ambulance staff who provided exceptional care.  Thank you also to our family and friends for their ongoing support during this difficult time.

He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
