Peter Jahn Sterbenc died peacefully on November 20, 2022 in Fernie, BC after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Peter was born on June 7, 1956 in Kimberley, BC. He lived for a short time in Skookumchuck, Bull River, and Enderby BC. In his early 20's, Peter moved to Elkford where he began his career with Fording River mine on September 6, 1978. He worked as a grader operator, on "I" shift, maintaining the mine roads and ensuring they were safe for the crews. He worked hard and took pride in the work he did. Peter retired in July 2021 after 43 years of working. He enjoyed his retirement and would often say, "retirement is great".
Peter was a hard worker, always willing to help, and was very trustworthy. He had many interests and hobbies which included reading, gardening, researching for information, electronics, wood working, metal work, and designing and building unique projects. Peter took pride and was meticulous with any project he worked on.
Peter is predeceased by both his parents, Augustine & Angela Sterbenc, and his cat DaVinci. He is survived by his sisters Katarina Sterbenc of Calgary, Marija Sterbenc of Enderby, and his niece Anjyleena Sohm of Enderby.
A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, friends and neighbors for the generous help and care they gave to Peter.
