Patsy CARAVETTA Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Pasquale (Patsy) Caravetta who passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his father Giuseppe, his mother Concetta, his brother Francesco, and his sister-in-law Elsa.

Patsy was born in Fernie on August 31, 1929, in the same house he resided in until his passing. Patsy enjoyed all different sports. A great hockey player, Patsy played defence for the Fernie Rangers and was Captain of the team. Another winter sport he enjoyed was curling. As a young man he began boxing, becoming the East Kootenay welterweight champion. Patsy also played baseball and was the catcher for the Fernie men's team. However, of all the sports Patsy played, he loved golf the most. He was a member of the Fernie Golf Club for over 50 years; he couldn't wait for the snow to disappear so he could play his 18 holes first thing in the morning with friends before joining his brother Sam for an afternoon walk along the dyke.

Patsy was also an active member of the Fernie Elks Lodge and the Fernie 3300 Club, and it was at the 3300 club where Patsy worked with Ernie Chambers to establish the Fernie Minor Hockey League. Patsy also coached the Fernie Midgets to win the East and West Kootenay Championship in the 1971/72 season. Following that, Patsy became the coach of the Fernie Jr. Sabres. He also served one term as a City of Fernie councillor. Patsy loved going fishing and hunting, especially with his brothers and nephews.

After graduating from school, Patsy worked in the Coal Creek mine before attending barber school in 1956 in Vancouver. Upon returning to Fernie, he worked as the barber on 2nd avenue for over 25 years; everyone knew Patsy's barbershop.

Patsy is survived by his brother Sam, his sister-in-law Irene, nephews Joe (Lori), Mark, Gerard, and Paul (Anissa), and his niece Connie (Martin) as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stimson and the staff at the Elk Valley hospital for the care provided to Patsy.

Patsy was a prince of a man and will be forever missed.
