Norman HAYWARD Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Norman Dale Hayward, who left us on October 21, 2024, peacefully at his home in Elkford, BC. He was sixty-one years old.

Norman is survived by his loving wife, Jan Hayward, of 35 years of marriage. Most of those years his children, Daryl Hayward (Jaclyn) resided in Vancouver, BC, and Micheal Hayward (Mariah) reside in Elkford, BC. Norman will be missed by his four grandchildren: Roman, Ivy, Brenley, and Carter along with his brothers: Doug, Ron, and sister, Paula.

Norman is predeceased by his parents, Geoff and Pauline Hayward, and brother Roy Hayward.

Norman was raised in Moose Jaw, SK, where he attended Albert E. Peacock High School and went onto post-secondary at SIAST, in Moose Jaw, as an Automotive Technician.

Later, he met the love of his life; they had taken the lifelong adventure of moving to the mountains in Elkford, BC, in 1988.

He began his career at Fording River Operations on December 10th,1988, as a haulage driver and ran various pieces of equipment. During his last few years, Norman worked as a driller operator and trainer, retiring in 2021. He took immense pride in his work and enjoyed collaborating with his crew, sharing ideas, stories, and helping anyone who needed it.

Family time was the most enjoyable for Norman and he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and sons. Picking up his guitar and playing a song or two was one of his greatest passions, one that he shared with his sons and anyone else who wanted to learn.

While fishing on Vancouver Island, there was nothing quite like him catching a salmon or hauling in a halibut. It gave him a great deal of joy, laughter, and memories.

You have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many people by the stories or thoughts you have shared.  You have created smiles for those that follow you.

You’re in our minds... forever in our hearts. “Rest high on that mountain.”

Norman’s favourite songs:

John Denver “Annie”

Erik Clapton, “Tears in Heaven.”

James Taylor, “Fire and Rain.”

Tom T. Hall, “Old Dogs, Children, and Watermelon Wine.”

Vince Gill, Allison Krauss, and Ricky Skaggs “Rest High on That Mountain”
