Matt REDDY

Matthew 'Matt' Lawrence Reddy (33) passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023 in the loving presence of his family.

Born in Calabogie, Ontario, Matt's passion for adventure began at an early age. At 6 months old, his dad would take him for flights in his Cessna 172, which is maybe where his fearlessness began. Matt spent his early years ski racing and biking in the Ontario hills.

Matt studied Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University where his athleticism shone through both on the track and the football field. He graduated in 2013 and quickly moved out west to chase his big mountain dreams. This is where Matt truly discovered his passion and purpose for backcountry skiing, mountaineering, mountain biking, paddling, and whatever other adreneline-fuelled mountain sports he could dive into.

In 2019, Matt got tired of commuting to the mountains from Calgary and moved to Fernie, BC, where he continued to chase his passions. Matt found a real sense of home in the Fernie community, where he thrived surrounded by equally as stoked friends. 

Matt will be remembered for his determination and his love of thinking up an adventure and working tirelessly until he'd convinced his friends to join him. Keep sending it for us up there buddy.

Matt will be missed deeply by family; mom Angie, dad Lorne, little sisters Meghan and Michelle, and  partner Kirsten, as well as countless friends and extended family across the country. 

An informal gathering for family & friends will be held on Saturday, April 29th from 2-4 pm at Cherished Memories "Serenity Chapel" in Fernie, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Indigenous Women Outdoors. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer with details to follow.
