Mary Koran (nee Vicen) passed away at the Elk Valley Hospital on April 3, 2025, at the age of one hundred and two. She was born on February 1, 1923, in Czechoslovakia to Joseph and Mary Vicen. Her family emigrated to Canada when she was eight years old, where she was raised on the family farm on Hartley Lake Road.
In 1942 she met her husband, Frank Koran and together they raised six children: Joyce (Cliff) Hutchinson, Betty (Bud) Johnson, Bob (Chris) Koran, Elaine (Paul) Walsh, Frank (Susan) Koran, and Doug (Renee) Koran.
Mary worked a variety of jobs while raising her family and in 1970 became a licensed practical nurse, working until her retirement in 1988. Throughout her life Mary enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting, camping, and berry picking. She also loved travelling, gardening, cooking, volunteering, and activities with the senior citizens club. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1978; brother, Joe; sister, Josie; and sons-in-law, Paul and Bud. She is survived by her six children, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-four great grand children, twenty-three great-great grand children and brother, Frank (Doris) Vicen. She will be greatly missed by many other relatives and friends.
