Marlette Ramos tragically passed away in a car accident on December 7th, 2024, in Sparwood, BC. She was born on March 19, 1978, in Iloilo City, Philippines. She was the eldest of six siblings.
Marlette is deeply loved and survived by her husband of 15 years, Alexander Ramos; her children, Maria Alexandra Ramos and Alexander Jr. Ramos; her siblings, Maria Leilanie Binobo and Mark Binobo; and her uncles, Albert Binobo and Raymond Binobo, along with their wives, Luna Binobo and Sahlee Binobo. She is also survived by her nieces, Raya Ashlee Binobo and Angela Danielle Binobo, as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Marlette graduated with a degree in Midwifery from Iloilo Doctors College in 1996. After graduation, she moved to Dubai in 2004, where she worked as a midwife at Iranian Hospital for four years. It was during her time in Dubai that Alex’s aunt introduced her to her future husband, Alexander Ramos. They began a long-distance relationship. Marlette then move to Edmonton, Canada in 2007. She initially worked as a nanny, and on March 7, 2009, Marlette and Alex married in a beautiful ceremony at the Jaro Cathedral Church in Iloilo City, Philippines. Six months later, Alex moved to Canada, and the couple settled in Hinton, Alberta.
When the coal mine where Alex worked closed, they relocated to Elkford, BC, where Marlette and her family thrived. Though the move was initially difficult for Marlette due to the distance from her friends and relatives, she eventually came to love Elkford, often sharing with Alex how much happier she felt there. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom before recently starting work at The Blend Bistro in Elkford. Marlette was known for her love of cleaning, playing Mahjong, and engaging in card games like Tong-its with her uncles and aunts. She enjoyed offering treats and home-cooked meals to friends and colleagues. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband Alex and her children Xandra and Xander, making memories that will live on in their hearts.
The Ramos and Binobo families would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Filipino Community of Elkford, Sparwood, and Fernie, as well as the Elkford and Sparwood communities, EVR Fording River Operations, USW Union, and all the individuals who contributed to the GoFundMe campaign. Your support, prayers, and positive thoughts have been a great comfort during this difficult time.
Marlette will be forever remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
