Marilyn WILLETT Obituary

Marilyn Ann LaGrandeur was born in Pincher Creek, AB in 1939 and lived with her parents, Walter and Myrtle, her older brothers, Graham and Jim (James) and younger sister, Nadine. Marilyn attended St. Michael’s Catholic School where she was an active member of the church’s community and choir.

After leaving school, Marilyn worked for Alberta Government Telephone as a switchboard operator. Pincher Creek was a busy hub and back in the day the switchboard operators dispatched police and fire as well as connecting calls for families and businesses. It is here where a colleague and friend of Marilyn’s told her about a nice, kind boarder that was rooming at her home and introduced Marilyn to her future love and husband, Glenn (Whipper).

Marilyn and Whipper were married on January 27, 1962, in Pincher Creek. They welcomed their son, Vaughn, in 1963 and their daughter, Dianna, in 1965. Whipper’s career in construction took their family to jobs in Saskatchewan, Alberta and finally to Sparwood in 1967 where they settled to raise their family. As her children got older, Marilyn re-entered the workforce – preschool teacher, store clerk, office clerk, a noon hour supervisor and casual custodian for the school district.

Afternoons were meant for walking with friends and visiting with people that they met. Shopping trips for groceries would often take hours! Marilyn truly loved meeting up with people and having a good chat.

Marilyn and Whipper enjoyed their retirement camping at Rock Lake, meeting new friends and of course lots of chatting down at the beach and around campfires. Marilyn will be remembered as a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma.

Marilyn leaves behind her sister, Nadine; her son, Vaughn (Bonnie); her daughter, Dianna (Deane); grandchildren: Brianna (Curtis), Jared (Taeler), Kate and great grandchildren: Claire and Anna.

We will carry your love in our hearts forever.
