It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that Lyle Thomas Bowcock of Fernie, passed away suddenly from cancer at the Elk Valley Hospital on Thursday, September 18th at the age of 69 years. Lyle was born in Fernie on June 11, 1951 to parents Anne (nee Gawryluk) and Don Bowcock.
Much of Lyle’s youth was spent on the family farm in Hosmer. On November 12, 1968, at the age of 17, Lyle enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and was honourably discharged on February 7, 1969 in Cornwallis, NS.
Lyle worked at the Elko Mill, Ontario Hydro, Calgary Field Aviation, and owned his own carpentry business before working with Chinook Scaffolding. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing darts, and camping at Loon Lake, and was an active member of the Fernie Legion where he liked to meet up with friends. Lyle spent a lot of his time with his brother Terry, nephew Roy, and Roy’s children Asher and TJ.
Left to mourn are his brother Terry (Dorrie) George, his sister Melodie Priest, nephews Adam (Andrea) and Jeff (Kayla) Strandquist, Roy George, Brad, and Travis Priest, and his niece Amanda Priest with their families. Lyle is also survived by sons Adam and Travis Bowcock, 6 grandchildren: Luc, Jayden, Ayveah, Talon, Olivia and Brooklyn, and his great grandson Luscius. We will miss you, big brother.
