Lois Elaine SWEET

September 6, 1931 ~ August 2, 2023 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Obituary

Lois Elaine (nee Ogden) Sweet passed away on August 2, 2023, after spending 91 years and 11 months on earth. She was born on September 6th, 1931, in Cranbrook, BC to Nellie and John Ogden.

Lois was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Walter Sweet, and her three brothers, Henry, Gerald, and John. She is survived by her daughter Wanda (Rick); her sons Dennis (Vicky), and Bud (Carol); sisters-in-law Lil Bossio and Maymae Ogden; grandchildren Cameron, Cory, Craig, Brandi, Danyell, Joe, Cody, and Amanda; seventeen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

As a young girl, Lois was a member of the Cranbrook Girl’s Bugle Band, which she enjoyed immensely and spoke of often. Lois worked a few jobs before deciding to pursue a career in nursing. She was a Candy Stripe Nurse at the Cranbrook Hospital before moving to Vancouver for her nurses training. However, upon arriving in Vancouver, Lois fell ill with Tuberculosis and as a result, spent a year in the sanitarium. After being discharged, she returned home to live with her parents in Cranbrook.

It was at a Rodeo in Cranbrook that Lois met the love of her life, Walter Sweet, and they were married on October 23, 1954. The couple moved to a logging camp in the Elk Valley and saved up enough money to purchase a farm in Baynes Lake where they raised their three children. Lois helped Walter on the farm and always had a beautiful flower garden of her own. In 1991 they sold the farm and moved to Fernie to be closer to their doctors. Lois was still living in that house when she passed away.

Lois loved to go to her crib games; doctor’s appointments could never be scheduled for a Tuesday as those were crib days! She also loved to bake and was still making tasty goodies until her passing.

Lois will be remembered for her sweetness and her gentle ways. She always had cookies and a cup of tea or coffee when anyone stopped by.

A service is scheduled at Cherished Memories on September 10th, 2023 with a burial in the Baynes Lake Cemetery to follow at a later date.
