Lizzie ECKEL Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lizzie (Andersen) Eckel, who passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by love. She was 79.

Born on November 18, 1945, in Ostergesbog, Denmark, Lizzie immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, with her family in 1957, later moving to Natal, BC, where she met the love of her life, Bert. The two were married on July 18, 1970, and together built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion in Hosmer, BC.

Lizzie had a true zest for life. She loved watching sports, especially when her family was playing, and was an avid bowler for many years. She worked at Overwaitea in Sparwood before starting her own successful cleaning business and working at several hotels in Fernie. Lizzie was also an active member of the Hosmer Recreation Society, where her energy and enthusiasm left a lasting mark.

She enjoyed gardening, camping, and spending time at Lake Koocanusa, where fishing and relaxing with friends and family brought her the greatest joy. Lizzie also loved her many trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin, where she had endless fun on the slot machines—always shared with good friends and plenty of laughter.

Family was everything to Lizzie. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bert; daughters, Annette (Trevor) and Karen (Mike); her beloved grandsons, Austin and Bryce, and her brothers, Bent (Noreen), and Steen (Lezley). She will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, and a very special extended family. Lizzie was predeceased by her parents, Edith and Kai Oscar, brother, Ken and sisters, Hanne and Birgith.

Lizzie’s warmth, strength, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Elk Valley Hospital for the compassionate care and support they provided Lizzie over the past few months, helping to make her final days as comfortable as possible.

Liz loved her time at the lake with everyone and there is no better way to celebrate her life than to honour her with one more Happy Hour.
