John LEGGE Obituary

John Vernon Legge Born July 25th, 1972, in London, Ontario. Passed away on February 17th, 2026, in Fernie, BC.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Legge, devoted husband to Kim and loving father to Jackson. He died doing what he loved when an avalanche overtook him while snowmobiling.

John also leaves behind his dad, David Legge (Shelley Crawford); father and mother-in-law, Jerry, and Joan Doucette; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Deanna Doucette; niece, Abby Doucette and nephew, Ben Doucette; his chosen brother, Jesse Lee and Jesse’s wife Carrie Reis Lee and their children Meadow, River, and Lily Lee. He also leaves behind many, many friends, other family members, and co-workers to mourn his loss.

John was predeceased by his mother, Marilyn Stewart and brother, Stuart Legge.

John always lived life to the fullest, keeping the child within his heart. Whether he was on a bmx, dirt jumper, mountain bike, dirt bike, skis, snowboard, snowmobile or snow bike, (wheels or skis) John was always ready for outdoor adventure, from his hometown in Thunder Bay, ON, to Vernon, Kelowna, Whistler, Pemberton, and Fernie, BC, always chasing the snow. Through his love of life in the outdoors, he has left a lasting mark on the

lives of many with whom he enjoyed activities in these settings.

John was a caring, generous guy who would help anyone out and who took great care of his family. He had a soft spot for teaching kids everything he knew. He was a great dad who imparted a lot of wisdom and practical skills onto his son and was humble enough to ask Jackson for help when he needed it (which was often).

John never stopped striving to be better at everything in life. He took pride in his work and pushed himself each time he went out on a bike or sled to improve his skills. He also worked hard on personal growth to improve himself and his relationships. His activities and his family and friends brought him great joy. He left us knowing how deeply he loved us all and while he was having a spectacular day.

The family would like to thank Fernie Search and Rescue, Elk Valley RCMP, Heather McInnis (Victims Services), our neighbours, family, and many dear friends near and far for all of their generous support throughout this tragic event. We are comforted to know how far John’s light has reached and how wonderful humanity truly is.
