Jim was born in Saskatchewan to Frances and Donald Wright. The second of five kids, he grew up in Swift Current, enjoying hockey and baseball and many enduring friendships. He would later play hockey (extreme left wing) with the U of S Huskies.
Jim married Isabelle Nodge in 1963. After earning his pilot’s license, he finished his teaching degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Jim and Isabelle moved to Calgary where he was a high school math teacher while raising their kids Jenny and Paul. The family returned to Swift Current where Jim and Is ran a farm parts business “Nodge Manufacturing.” Summers were busy and Winters less so, and when the mountains beckoned and the family spent time skiing the slopes of Fernie, BC.
In 1983 they built one of the first houses on the ski hill, eventually settling in Fernie. Jim became a well-known ski instructor, bringing the joy of the sport to many lucky people over three decades. Jimbo, a natural born teacher, will be remembered by his students and colleagues in the classroom and on the slopes.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Frank and sister, Judy. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle; children, Jenny (Jean), Paul (Mandy); grandchildren: Jenna, Levi, Zack, and Josie; sister, Donnie; many dear nieces, nephews, in-laws, and countless friends.
Jim will be remembered for his kind and gentle demeanor, wicked sense of humor, incredible listening skills, endless storytelling, and sense of compassion for his fellow human beings.
