Gerald "Gerry" GREGG

March 17, 1947 ~ September 5, 2023 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Gerald Kenneth Gregg, 76, passed away peacefully on the evening of September 5, 2023, with his loving family by his side. It was a drizzly evening with a soft breeze blowing through the open window and the perfect setting to send him off.

Those who had the privilege of calling Gerry a friend or family will know that he lived a life that was true to himself: full of adventure, love for all living things, and humor.  He had a contagious laugh, and although one could be fooled into thinking that he was quiet and reserved, you can be assured that there was some untold joke rolling around in his head just waiting for the right moment to be told.

Born and raised in Fernie, BC, Gerry was no stranger to the best fishing holes and backroads in the Elk Valley.  After a brief move to Vancouver after graduating from Fernie Secondary School, Gerry found himself back home, where he married Beth and raised two daughters on their property in the Morrissey area.  It was there that he taught his daughters how to fish and drive stick, play cards, and how to find their way home in the dark after spending too many hours along the river.

When Gerry and Beth decided that they needed a new adventure in 1998, and Gerry tired of constantly fixing haying equipment, they bought property in Baynes Lake, BC, where they built a home and resided until 2008.  Although they loved the home and life they had built there, it was time to move on.  After Gerry retired after 28 years from what is now the Canfor Mill in Elko, BC in 2007, he and Beth decided to pursue one last dream together while still able bodied and full of energy.

After a long search and many trips, they finally found a long abandoned and pack rat infested hunting cabin in Nemaiah Valley, BC.  It was the perfect place to call home, and Beth and Gerry were able to envision the potential of the property.  Off-grid living was never easy, but both Beth and Gerry embraced life in the valley, poured their hearts into their cozy cabin and property, explored roads and trails deep into the wilderness, and made many lifelong friends along the way.

In 2019, Gerry and Beth made their way to Millet, Alberta, to be closer to family.  It was there that they made many new friends, did some exploring and camping in Alberta and BC with their beloved dogs in tow, and enjoyed farm life, long sunsets and learned to appreciate the prairies and rolling hills of Alberta.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife and constant companion of 48 years, Beth, as well as his daughters Ricki (Brad) Gage, Megan (Dean) Pezderic, and his grandchildren Wyatt, Morgan, Paige and James-Dean.

Gerry is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Margaret Gregg, as well as his brother, “
