George SHADE Obituary

Our dad, never without a smile even in his hardest days, always saw the positive. George’s pride were his three children: Jennifer, Jonathon (Jill), and Jolene (Ryan Currie); grandchildren, Saige, Kylen, Danisha, Layla, Chase, Connor and Tristan; siblings, Gail, Linda (stu Ritchie), Donnald (Jennifer), Deborah (Kenn Sisley), and Jerry (Leanne); nephews, Jaxon, and Seth; nieces, Jody (Desmond), Kelly, Kennedi, and Piper; great nephews, Chase, and Mike; great niece, Alice, and his parents.

Dad never did anything without us kids by his side. Berry picking, early morning rises for hunting, camping at Mile 101, and Friday night movies with popcorn were our happy places. George enjoyed time in his shop building and creating wood projects and tinkering around. If we would have had a nickname for dad, it would have been Inspector Gadget as he literally had a gadget for everything!

George was a social butterfly who was a member of the Lions Club for thirty-seven years. He was a faithful volunteer at pancake breakfasts, and the derby. George loved to play crib, if you tried calling on those days, he would undoubtedly hang up.  He loved the Salvation Army Church where his faith and trust in the Lord grew, along with a wonderful church family. He was known for bringing hamburger soup or spaghetti sauce to the church potlucks. Dad’s kindness and generous heart never went unnoticed. He gave his kids everything a father could. Later in life, George enjoyed taking his scooter to the river, with a coffee in hand, and talking to people along the way.

There is one story that dad always shared amongst his friends; along with his best friend and partner in crime, Robbie Gordan, they took rubber tires, filled them with hay doused with diesel, lit them on fire and let them roll down the 3rd Street hill to where the Bridge Bistro is now.

George will be greatly missed by his family and many others.

We would like to thank Dr. Forrest for taking care of our dad over the years and for respecting his decisions. Also, thank you to the Lethbridge ICU unit, the Sparwood Kidney Dialysis Unit, and the Elk Valley Hospital nurses for the care and support he received.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and support to our family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as it was very close to dad’s heart. George was diagnosed with diabetes at fifteen; daughter, Jolene at thirteen; and grandson, Tristan at two years old. We love you dad, from your 3J’s.

Remember this, don’t stay so busy that you never take the time to enjoy those people you love, to enjoy doing the things you love. Never forget this is a God-given gift and that you owe it all to the Lord. Keep in mind to always do the best you can. The Bible says that everything you find to do, do it with your hands as if unto the Lord. Keep that in mind, enjoy your life, enjoy the people you love, be happy, and always forgive one another.

Psalms 18:3

Revelations 21:4

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There will be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Hallelujah.
