It is with very heavy hearts that my dad George and I (Carrie), say goodbye to our beloved son and brother, George Jr. on August 9, 2024.
George was flown from Cranbrook to Kelowna as a result of a heart attack and stroke. The Kelowna cardiac unit did their very best and then kept him comfortable until his passing on August 9, 2024. With my father unable to make the trip to Kelowna, George Jr’s best friend’s daughter Mariah (an absolute angel), stayed with George for 3-4 nights keeping him company and comforting him until his passing.
George Jr. was born July 21, 1963 in Fernie and lived most of his life surrounded by these beautiful mountains. He leaves behind his father George St., sister Carrie, brother-in-law Michael Yerkovich and his nephew Mikhail.
George attended Camosun College to study heavy-duty mechanics for a year then ventured out to work for Mitchell’s Constrution. He worked for the Bob Mitchell family for many years maintaining their machinery. George later ventured to the Northwest Territories past Yellowknife and worked for Diavik Diamond Mines. His career was cut short with back/neck injuries that limited his abilities to continue work on heavy machinery. During his time off, George challenged the heavy-duty mechanics exam and passed, finally receiving his full heavy-duty certification.
George enjoyed the outdoors, always finding fun things to do for every season. He hunted, fished, snowmobiled and enjoyed ATVing in the mountains with his friends.
We appreciate the fine care the Kelowna cardiac unit provided for George until his passing. We want to acknowledge and thank George’s best friend Corbett Offet and his beautiful daughter Mariah for all the support and love they have extended to our family at this time.
No service by request of the deceased, but there may be a celebration of life held by George’s friends later.
Please donate to the Salvation Army who continue to support the underprivileged, and Angel Flight East Kootenay.
