Gayle Elizabeth Taylor (nee Fair) passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 25, 2024, at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, BC. She was born in Port Hope, Ontario on March 25, 1941. She is survived by husband Lynn, sons Dale (Brenda) of Williams Lake, BC and Randy (Leitta) of Fernie, BC; brother Bob of Belleville, Ontario and grandchildren Bailey, Lance, Weston, Abbi and Benn.
Gayle grew up in the Tweed area of Ontario before moving to Wawa, Ontario in her teens. There she met and married Lynn in 1960. Together they moved to Houghton, Michigan in 1963 where Gayle became President of Tech Wives, the largest group on Michigan Tech campus. In 1969 the family moved to Vancouver, BC and eventually to Fernie, BC in 1970.
Gayle loved Fernie and the lifestyle of living in the mountains. She enjoyed everything from curling to the Friday night meat draw at the “Fernie”.
She served Fernie on council for nine years where she was a strong proponent for low-cost-living residences, extension of the Elk River dike system and the pool. Following that she served on the board of Community Futures East Kootenay, as the Fernie representative for almost 14 years. She will be missed by many friends in the Fernie-Elk Valley area.
Gayle loved animals, particularly dogs. She always had a treat handy and a pat for any dog that strolled by.
