Frances Deborah (Debbie) FRASER Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Deborah (Debbie) Fraser after a courageous and hopeful battle with cancer on August 14, 2025, in Fernie, B.C. Debbie was born on June 1, 1962, in Fernie, B.C.

Debbie was predeceased by her father, Clarence Fraser; mother, Zora Fraser; six siblings: Maurice, Darlene, Bill, Harvey, Reggie, and Doug, along with her sisters-in-law, Irma, and Gloria, and brother-in-law, Brian Halko.

She is survived by her son, Patrick; sister, Gail; sisters-in-law, Sharon Fraser, and Sharon O’Brien, along with numerous nephews, great-nephews, her niece, and great-nieces.

Debbie was born and raised in the Elk Valley where she spent most of her life. She briefly lived in Vancouver and Victoria where she furthered her education for office administration and met many wonderful people who would help to shape her life. After returning to the Valley to be closer to family, she eventually discovered the job she felt most fulfilling in life, working at the Lilac Terrace for the Elk Valley Seniors Housing Society in Sparwood. Debbie had a great love for the residents of the Lilac. Those of which she came to know as a second family.

Away from the Lilac, Debbie also worked at the Pharmasave in Sparwood. Where she always served the people in town with a smile. She lived out the remainder of her life in the Valley.

Debbie lived for her family and friends. She was an incredibly generous, caring, and gentle woman who never put herself first. She would time and time again go without if it meant helping others. Never needing to be asked or requiring anything in return. Through sickness, health, poverty, or prosperity, her own or otherwise, she never missed birthdays, holidays, or in times of need, she was always there. She worked tirelessly to make sure that those around her were taken care of whenever she could, especially when it came to her son, her pride and joy, Patrick.

To Debbie, the act of helping others was the most rewarding thing of all. And she always did it with the most genuine smile imaginable. Words alone will never do justice to what an amazing woman she was.

Debbie will be deeply missed by her friends and her family. But we know that one of heavens purest souls has returned to its kingdom. And we hope she enjoys a much-deserved rest until the day we can see her again.

The Fraser family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Sparwood Medical Clinic, the Fernie Elk Valley Hospital, the Cranbrook Hospital, the Kelowna Hospital, and Hope Air Charity for the wonderful care and attention given to Debbie. And for their efforts in aiding her battle with cancer. We would like to give thanks as well to anyone who may have helped Debbie along with her journey in any way, big or small.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held by members of her family at a later date.
