Eugene "Gene" NIEMINEN

Surrounded by his family, Eugene (Gene) Nieminen passed away peacefully at Southwood Hospice in Calgary, Alberta on May 19, 2022 at the age of 84 years. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol, his daughter Elaine, son-in-law Ken and grandson Devon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. Gene was predeceased by his parents Uno & Tyyne Nieminen, brother Eero Nieminen, sister Elsie Gibson and nephew Robert Nieminen.

Gene was a quiet, gentle and loving soul. He was known to be a man of very few words. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent much time in his younger years hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. Gene loved heavy equipment, especially dozers. He would often tell of his many adventures operating his dozer at Line Creek Resources. He loved that job. Gene had a great love for dogs and was often seen around Sparwood with his little dog Andy. He was also known for his regular dump runs with his buddy Jim in search of scrap metal. He was very devoted to his family and always put them above everything else. He will be dearly missed.

At Gene’s request there will be no service.
