Edith Hazel WRIGHT

August 1, 1939 ~ September 7, 2023 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Obituary

With great sorrow we acknowledge the passing of Edith Hazel Wright on September 7th, 2023, after months of struggle with kidney disease and heart problems.

Edith was born in PEI on August 1, 1939 to Velda and William MacDonald. Edith spent her childhood years on the family farm with her seven siblings. Life then was filled with farm chores and family and small community warmth and caring, attending school in a one room schoolhouse across the road. Edith was full of stories about everyday life and escapades of her childhood which she recounted with great affection and humor.

Edith met Bryan, a sailor on leave, on a blind date in 1961. They married on Dec 31, 1961 and lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After the birth of three babies, Edith and Bryan packed their children into a Volkswagon Beetle and moved across the country to Fernie, British Columbia to be close to Bryan's family.  She loved the mountains and her new family and made Fernie her home until retirement, raising her family and working there.  She was always calm and stoic, always fair and kind, always put her family before herself. She was the centre of our family, the glue that held us together. She was a wonderful wife and mother and a beloved Nana and cherished G.G.

Edith was always the caregiver of the family and she supported and was there for Bryan through his illness. She suffered alongside him until his death in 2012, then carried on by herself, strong and accepting. She lived quietly but every life she touched was better for her presence. Edith was a generous and caring soul who loved the simple things in life and being with family. Edith's passing has left a huge hole in our family that we can only fill with our memories and gratitude for her. She is and always will be greatly missed.

Edith is survived by her sister Ferne and brother Donnie, daughters Cindy and Dawna (Blaine) and her grandchildren Nicole, Danielle, Brandi, Allan, Brianna, Dustin, Darcy, Amanda, and Tabitha as well as her 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bryan Elwood Wright, her daughter Vicky Lynn Zuffa, her grandson Bryan James Wright, and her siblings Thelma, Phyllis, Joyce, Stanley, and Ken.

As Edith wished, there will not be an official funeral, and instead we will grieve and celebrate her life privately and within our family.

Edith will be interred alongside her husband Bryan at Mountainview Cemetery in Calgary, Alberta.
