Douglas LYON

Douglas Bruce Lyon passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, in Fernie, British Columbia at the age of eighty-one after battling cancer. Doug was born in High River, Alberta on August 8, 1943. 

Doug was predeceased by his daughter, Maria, who passed away on January 26, 2021, and his two older brothers Roy and Don Lyon. He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Marcus (Joanne) and daughter, Sonja (Ed) Richards; grandchildren Kelti (Jake) Brueggeman, Mitchell, Kiana, and Emma Lyon, Hannah, Jakob, and Maxwell Richards. Doug has three great grandchildren: Rawlings, Madden, and Bostyn Brueggeman. He is also survived by his brothers; Gerald and Wayne (Wendy) Lyon. 

Doug and Doris married on June 2, 1966, in Regina, Saskatchewan. They started their family in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, after which they spent a year in Germany with Doug teaching English. They spent the majority of their time raising their children in Turner Valley, Alberta. While there, Doug was a teacher and started several side projects, most notably the Millarville Farmers Market. In 1989 they moved to Jaffray, British Columbia where he continued to teach at Jaffray Elementary School. Shortly after moving to Jaffray, he began the Jaffray/Baynes Lake Farmers Market, which he and Doris ran for many years. During his time in Alberta and BC, he also taught music to many students. 

Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Jaffray, BC on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at the Jaffray Cemetery. A luncheon will take place at 1:00 PM at the Jaffray Community Center.
