Doreen van Eck Obituary

On Tuesday, December 18, 2024 at 2:20pm, the story of a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was completed. Doreen finished her story too soon at the age of 74, with her loving and beloved husband and family by her side. She has passed on the joy of sharing her story to her best friend and soulmate Bert; her sons, Daniel, and Evan (Lindsey); daughters, Melanie, and Krista; granddaughters, Mikaela, and Brooklyn; grandsons Jordan, and Hudson as well as a huge circle of extended family and friends.

She was preceded by her parents Anton and Ella, and her younger brother Matt.

Doreen Linda van Eck’s (Dormuth) story began in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 7, 1950 when she was born to Anton and Ella Dormuth. The oldest of three children, and only girl, she loved and cared for her brothers Matthew and David.

Raised in Chaplin, Saskatchewan, and growing up with her aunts, uncles, and cousins all nearby, Doreen learned and taught the values of love and family to everyone around her.

In 1971 she moved to the Northwest Territories to begin a new chapter. She met Bert, the love of her life in Hay River in 1972, and they married on March 10, 1973. Their family grew from two to ten in their 51 years of marriage as they were blessed with four children and four grandchildren.

Doreen filled her life with a love of people, crafts, reading, teaching, and sharing the stories of her youth and family.

Doreen spent her 74 years on this Earth teaching, loving, and dreaming of all that her children and grandchildren could become. We promise not to let you down.

As she was a lover of all animals, especially cats that were ever present in her house and at her side, we ask that in lieu of flowers, family and friends donate in Doreen’s name to an animal shelter of their choice.
