It is with our deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dora Aquila (nee Rizzo). She was born in Spezzano, Della Sila, Italy on June 19, 1930.
Dora was the beloved wife of her late husband, Pietro Aquila, a loving mother to her children: Franco (Kelly), Adriana (Alan) Ornella (Frank), and Luciana (Floyd), a precious grandmother to Candice, Lauren, and Jesse, and a great grandmother to Cayden. She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Lidia DiGeorgio and many nieces and nephews. Dora was also predeceased by her parents Giuseppe and Luciana, her brother Francesco, and sisters Ida and Maria.
On December 21, 1964, Dora and her three eldest children immigrated to Fernie to join Pietro. Shortly after arriving in Canada, the Aquila family was completed with the birth of their fourth child.
Dora loved to entertain and was well known for her Italian cooking and baking. The heart of Dora’s home was her kitchen where she was always busy, welcoming guests with mouth-watering aromas of the delicious treats she had so lovingly prepared. Dora also enjoyed playing bingo and camping with Pietro.
She was an amazing wife, mother and Nonna who will be dearly missed by her family. Her memory will live on forever within our hearts, as well as the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Dora spent her later years at Rocky Mountain Village, and her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff who cared for her and showed her much kindness.
