Donna "Carol" DAVIS Obituary

It is with extreme sadness to announce the death of Donna "Carol" Davis (Ward) on December 25th, 2025. Carol was born in Nelson on June 4th, 1952, the first daughter of Buddy and Barbara Ward. At the age of 4 she enjoyed having tea parties under her father’s logging horse, Skip. At five years old she and her dog would go with her dad to work up in the bush near Kaslo where they camped overnight for several days in an old trapper’s cabin. For her 11th birthday after saving money from babysitting and help from her parents she purchased her horse, Fawn, who she trained herself. Her love for horses continued throughout her life. She could often be seen riding along the shores of Kootenay Lake where she would ride into the water and jump off her horse.

After graduating from LV Rogers High School she travelled to Kenilworth, England where she earned an Assistant Instructor's Certificate from the British Horse Society. She spent some time down south in Massachusetts working in a stable. In early 1976 she travelled to Vancouver to work at B.C. Tel. While there she met her future husband, Douglas. She married Douglas in 1977, and they spent the summer in the Yukon; she as a cook and he as a prospector for Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation. The last couple of weeks in September of that year saw the two of them alone in fly camp near the N.W.T. border "socked in" for several days because the helicopter couldn't fly in to pick them up. Couldn't have been a better time to be together.

After that she spent ten years in Lytton, B.C. where her husband taught at Kumsheen Secondary School. It was there that she developed several special friendships. It was also there that her three children were born in the Kamloops Hospital. She spent countless hours pushing a buggy up the Trans-Canada Highway to take her children to Skihist Park.

In 1988 she moved with her family to Elkford. She was involved in Minor Hockey for many years, running the concession for a couple seasons and also on the executive for a number of years. She had many jobs while here: working at the video store, cleaning apartments, Substitute teaching at the elementary and high school, newspaper distributor for the Kootenay advertiser and Fernie Free Press, Census Canada enumerator, giving riding lessons, a short stint at Teck Coal, and being a nanny.

She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren playing hockey, baseball, basketball, and other sports. She travelled as far as Holland to watch her son play professional hockey. She loved being in the outdoors, especially the hunting trips to the South Country, where she would frequently endure nights sleeping in the back of the truck with no heat in temperatures as low as minus 20. What a good sport! She loved travelling beyond the Arctic Circle, to Utah, the Eastern U.S., to Newfoundland, to Europe, and especially to Hawaii with her daughter. She loved camping and swimming at Loon Lake with friends and family.

Carol was predeceased by both parents. She is survived by husband, Douglas; sons, Mitchell (Kathy) and Wade (Terra); daughter, Paige; grandchildren, Tanum, Ethan, Kinley, Mackinley, Lacey, and Taylan; sister, Laurie and brothers, Chris , Jason (Stephenie) along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Special recognition to lifelong friends: Sheila, Bev, and Maxine as well as cousins, Raine, Debra, Twyla, and Graeme. Also, to her brothers-in-law, Alfred and George and sisters-in-law, Janice, and Ann.

Thanks to Dr. Serwatkewich and to all the Home Care Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses for their excellent care.
