It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Colleen Ethel Braconnier, who went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2026, at the age of 90.She was surrounded by family who meant the world to her, transitioning from this life just as she lived it wrapped in love.
A Big Personality in a Small Package, Colleen was truly a force of nature. Known by many as a “ball of fire,” she proved that size has nothing to do with the scale of one’s impact. She possessed a contagious laughter that could brighten the darkest room and a with that kept everyone on their toes. She was the rare combination of fierce determination and gentle kindness, showing her children and grandchildren exactly what it means to lead a life of persistence and grit. Her heart and legacy. If there was one thing Colleen was most proud of, it was her family—5 generations. She lived her life to the fullest, finding joy in the small moments and immense pride in the achievements of those she loved. To her children, she was a rock; to her grandchildren, she was a source of endless fun and wisdom. Her lessons on how to love deeply and laugh loudly will be carried forward by all of us.
Colleen had a way of making every person she interacted with feel seen and heard. Whether through a funny story or a helping hand, she left an indelible mark on her community and her friends & family forever.
She was born to Stanley & Ethel Lake in Kaslo, B.C. She grew up on the family farm with her 3 siblings on beautiful Kootenay Lake at Johnson’s Landing, and later met Wilf & moved to Lardeau, B.C. Until moving to Creston in 1971, where they made a life for many years, until she moved to Fernie B.C.
Her greatest pride was her kids, grandchildren, her great & great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Allan (Lorraine) Braconnier & their children: Jeff, Lindsey, Tyler & Kaitlyn (Rob), as well as her greats Kaylee, Alex & Maddix & Aria, Ken (Anita) Braconnier & daughter Brooklyn, (Russ) Hansen & greats: Charlie & Jack, Renee Braconnier & her daughters Ashley (Garrett) Gouchey, and grandchildren: Tyra & Donovan, Tehya (Jace) & great great grandchild Bentley Kelsey (Jamie) Simpson & great grandson Noah, predeceased by baby angel Kai Simpson, grandchildren: Angela (Zach) Parker, & greats Taylor, Haileigh, & KerianBrian (Lacey) Braconnier Greats: Jaiden & Mckenzie (Tania Clarke)Tawny Braconnier & greats Destiny & Aliyah Strang.
