Beverly INGLIS Obituary

Beverly (Bev) Ann Inglis (nee Rigg) died peacefully on Saturday, February 14th, in Fernie, BC. She was born on January 27, 1945, in Fernie, BC. Bev was predeceased by her husband, Bruce, in 2001; sister, Shelia; brother-in-law, Frayne; and her parents, Ike and Ann Rigg. She is survived by her daughter, Teri (Todd) Inglis-Hurley, and son Christopher (Jennifer) Inglis; grandchildren, Erik, and Rhylie; nephew, Patrick Davis, and niece, Leanne (John) Davis. She will be missed by other relatives and friends. But above all, Bev loved being Nana to Erik and Rhylie, and she shared a special bond with them.

Bev was a ‘North-end’ girl who believed in giving back to her community. She volunteered for many years with the Special Olympics. When Fernie hosted the BC Winter Games in 1987, she and her husband Bruce were there to help. They were active in the local hockey community and volunteered with the Elk Valley Blazers for eight years on the team’s executive committee. When the Fernie Ghostriders were established, Bev and Bruce jumped in to help the team. Bruce was the team’s Director of Finance until his passing, and Bev was on the executive team. She looked after ticket sales for over 25 years until her health declined. The Ghostriders organization named Bev their Volunteer of the Year twice.

In honour of all her volunteer work and commitment to the community, Bev was named Fernie’s 2008 Citizen of the Year.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 23rd, at noon at St. Margaret’s Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Fernie Family Centre (Catholic Hall).

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Elk Valley Hospital for the wonderful care given to Bev. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society and the Special Olympics.
