DARREN LEE SERVATIUS “LEFTY”

Darren was born in Fernie on April 15, 1965 to parents Ron and Toni Servatius. From an early age he excelled at sports, particularly hockey. From his beginnings with Fernie Minor Hockey, Darren played in the Jr. B Division with the Shuswap Totems, and later with his brother Ron, played in the East Coast Hockey League with the Johnstown Chiefs.

Darren’s passion for the outdoor lifestyle led him to open his own company “Pro Fish Guiding & Rafting”. Darren was one of the first guiding companies on the Elk and Wigwam rivers. To this day, Darren holds a world record for bull trout on the Wigwam. In addition to operating his guiding business; Darren worked with many local hunting outfitters in the Elk Valley as a hunting guide.

Darren worked in the mining industry as a heavy equipment operator where he was known as “Dozer Darren.” Darren also was an active member of mine rescue for many years. A great storyteller, Darren was always ready to share his adventures with others. He had a huge, caring heart and was known to offer help even before being asked.

Darren died at the age of 54 in Okotoks, Alberta on November 20th following complications from diabetes. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.

Darren is survived by his fiancée Connie Haggerty; 2 daughters: Rachelle and Shelyse; his mother Toni Servatius; 3 siblings : Christine (Dan), Dale, and Ron; 6 nieces and nephews; Melissa (Simon), Michelle (Daigen), Cameron, Afton, Kiera, and Brynn, and 5 great nieces and nephews that held a special place in his heart: Hunter, Emma, Jackson, Isla and Emily. Also by special friend and mentor Brent Hamrell. He was predeceased by this father, Ronald Servatius.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
