Nancy GAWRYLUK Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Nancy Gawryluk, on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.

Nancy Wilma Gawryluk was born on December 3, 1942 in Michel, B.C.  She grew up in Hosmer and went to Fernie Elementary and Secondary School, where she graduated in 1961. After graduation she pursued a secretarial career.

Nancy’s dream was to go to the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962 … and she accomplished that dream! She enjoyed the music of the day and played the accordion, often alongside family and friends whenever the opportunity arose. Nancy was a fan of Elvis and JFK. Her Christian faith was important to her, and she regularly made sure nieces and nephews attended church with her.

Early in her adult life, Nancy moved to Vancouver Island where she worked as a chef at the Comox Air Force Base until her retirement. She met her best friend Liz during this time, and the two of them enjoyed cooking, camping, gardening, and their dog Dinky.

Nancy was a life-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and made many friends and memories during her years there.

Nancy was predeceased by her mother Anne, her father John, sisters Helen, Mary, Anne, and Francis, her brothers John and Peter, and her best friend Liz. She is survived by her sister Diane Pelletier of Courtenay, her brother Joe Gawryluk of Cumberland as well as several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

Nancy will now return to Fernie and be put to rest in St Margaret’s Cemetery, near her parents. She leaves you with this thought ….

“May your days on earth be merry, may your life be free from strife, and may God walk beside you, every day of your life.”
